GRIFF'S PLACE

When people see this painting they almost always ask, "Is this a real place?' The answer is, "Almost". Monument, Colorado resident Wayne "Griff" Griffin built this "false front" gas station next to his shop to have a place to display his collection of gasoline memoribilia. I had Wayne and his wife, Robyn, dress in period costumes and pose with two of their cars, a 1931 Model A and a 1933 Chevrolet ½ ton PU. Waynes sign collection, as originally photographed, was quite diverse so I changed everything that would have been inaccurate for my goal of a 1940's era country Texaco station.
