G & L RACING

Featured in this painting are a 1928 Ford Sedan Delivery and a 1936 Buick. I never imagined that I would one day combine a four door Buick sedan and a Model A in a painting but I was won over in the process of establishing of a warm relationship with car owners Gloria and Leonard Harpenau. This husband and wife racing team commissioned the painting as celebration of their long term participation in the Great American Race. I photographed the cars in the driveway of their home in El Cajon , California . The mountains and trees in the background are representative of the view from their back patio. The building is based on a garage in Del Norte , Colorado and the pump, with its Poly Gas dress, is based on a pump Leonard is restoring.
